New theatre concepts are rapidly developing from visual arts, dance and space theatre. You could divide stage designs into two categories, those illustrating the manuscript and those that use it as a basis for visual abstraction. Illustrating the manuscript seems to work best with older plays, while abstraction is most successful with modern plays. Classical writers, however, evokes an equal amount of interest at conventional as well as alternative Danish stages.
