Our exposition at the Prague Quadrennial 1987 differs significantly from our presentation in past years. The concept of our exhibit, the work of mostly young scenographers, is an expression of our motto: „The artisťs imagination seeks its implementation". The exposition is composed of ten individual sections, each of which presents one stage production The artists have attempted to show the visitor the path they themselves have taken to the theatre, in the context of various creative problems working conditions existing in various theatres, the produced drama itself and the process of mutual interaction with stage direction procedures They present not only designs, visual ideas, but also their implementation and the documentation concerning the production itself. They
have attempted to capture not only the artistic, but also the organizational and technical aspects of theatrical operations. Their point of departure is the concept that a scenographer in a theatre exists only through his or her stage designs; they present their work as „small stage designs", integrated into „the large stage design of the whole
exposition.
They strive to come as close as possible to the visitor, end him of passivity and challenge his participation in the creative process. And finally with the help of audiovisual media they want to inform the visitor of the aim of each stage design, of art in action — the essence of the theatre.
