THEATRE EDUCATION: Responding to National and Global Issues
The Filipino graduate today is undoubtedly moving towards ahighly complex and globally competitive world, rapidly advancing in information and technology. It is this same world that is crying out silently for humanism, as well as for social concern and love for the environment, to be more evident in people’s lives. The De La Salle – College of St. Benilde hopes to form graduates who are nationally and globally proactive and deeply rooted in faith and culture. In response to national and global issues in design for live performances, that is faithful to the ideals and values of the college, the School of Design and Arts through the Departments of Production Design and Technical Theatre strive to provide their students and extended communities innovative and relevant instruction, notable creative works and Christ – centered service in the fields of set design, costume design, lighting design, sound design and technical direction. Through a holistic, integrated curriculum in general education, in addition to acompetitive design foundation and core program that emphasizes design and production process, history (art, theatre and film), and technology, the two departments, in collaboration with each other, aim to develop well-respected and competent designers for live performances – whether these projects are small-scale or large-scale in nature; national or global in scope and perspective. This exhibit demonstrates the various initiatives the school has implemented in order to address various national issues concerning live performance in the Philippines.
