REVERSIBLE
It consists of an installation of 3 m by 4 m, structured as a broken chamber, through which the spectators walk, obtaining the vision of a city from back and front. Between these images is the funeral watch of a dead little angel, a traditional Chilean ritual on its way to extinction. The scene enfolds the ritual and the landscape of the Chilean desert. The purpose of the installation is to show the relationship between ritual and theatre. The notion of “scene”, where the dramatic action of the funeral watching takes place, is a critical vision of our fragmented, distant and passive urban culture, that can be seen in opposition to the ritual space, hidden in the landscape. Both spaces are each the “REVERSE” of the other, and in that way they open the field of the scene image, which enables the designer to search for links between both spaces. The reversibility of the artistic activity is then established as a way of envisaging the double image of the theatrical work. The basis of our work lies in the notion of cultural territory as in opposition to the process of globalization and homogenization of cultures.
