Auditorium N 15 - Always at the Edge

The Student Section – School Exhibit Section from Georgia is represented by the joint group of postgraduates from Shota Rustaveli State University of Theatre and Film, and the postgraduates of the Scenography Studio at the Union of Young Theatre Artists (YTA Union). We present the work of a young generation of artists coming out of the Soviet experience, with all the attendant trials of the post-Soviet period: the economic collapse, the political wars, a permanent energy crisis, a country once without borders transformed into a defined space. Naturally all of this is sharply reflected in the young scenographers’ work, and is what determined the exhibition theme – Auditorium N 15 – Always at the Edge. The concept is based on the idea of the “theatre inside theatre, text inside text”. The initial text was done by juxtaposing the students’ lives with an installation of various visual images scenographic interpretations of different authors’ texts (Aristophanes, Shakespeare, Beckett, Ionesco). The project’s subject: self-realisation, communication and identity. This project covers the problem of personality, private interactions and the responsibility of the artist in contemporary society. It is reality bounded by walls; the space where ideas accumulate, the edge that each of us faces. (* The edge between death and life, hopefulness and lack of faith. The feeling of being in a vacuum, while living in chaos. Hoping that everything passes to allow something new to start (from students’ writings)
