Error Erreur Erratum

Error (Lathos): mistake, wrong, incorrect, fault, misconception, misunderstanding, misapprehension, accident Error in scenography derives from an incorrect action attributed to wrong judgment, ignorance or misunderstanding. It may also derive from a misconception, resulting perhaps from incorrect information, erroneous belief, or omission. It may also be a gift given by fate or by chance, if you prefer, which may be integrated into a play, thus incorporating the unexpected, something that no organized thought could ever devise. Let us talk about error and creativity. According to the above mentioned the following questions emerge: When does the artist realise the error? Can the spectator recognise the error in a set design? Is an error obvious or disguised, recognisable or undetected? When do we choose an error not to be an error? When can an error be stimulating and inspiring? In which way can the error be creatively incorporated into the final artistic product? In which way can the error, in contrast to the director’s approach or even to the text, accomplish the final objective of the performance? Can a casual deviation from the central concept or an “accident” give an impulse to the final artistic product? Are there correct and false errors? When an error is creatively integrated in the final artistic product, thus creating a different and maybe more interesting concept, can it still be considered an error? In fact, what is an error?
