Metlalt and Metlapilli from 'The Ribald Flower Song' ('Xochicuicatl cuecuechtli')

'Xochicuicatl cuecuechtli' ('The Ribald Flower Song') Opera in the Nahuatl language by Gabriel Pareyon Premiered in September 2014 at the Theatre of the Arts, CENART, Mexico City. This is the first opera written in the Nahuatl language and exclusively using original Mexican instruments. A Cuecuechcuicatl (erotic song), collected around 1540 by Spanish friar Bernardino de Sahagun, forms an integral part of the text. Composed by Gabriel Pareyón, design by Enid Negrete, conducted by José Navarro, lighting design by Braulio Amadis.
