comments: This is the costume for Ariel, who in Shakespeare’s play is an airy spirit. G. Alexi-Meskhishvili’s costumes for various spectacles performed on many different stages of the world and representing various genres, show that by means of clothes the artist creates a character’s visual dramaturgy. For this purpose he uses the texture of material, decorative details, masks, make-up, lighting; sometimes he modifies natural proportions, etc. In the sketches designed by him an emotional attitude towards the character is perceived. The artist manages to switch the attitude expressed by the stroke of a paintbrush to the material, pattern, and create garments that contain a theatrical secret and at the same time are comfortably worn by actors. From his sketches an actor can learn how to dematerialize his/her own body, how to raise a foot from stage boards, fathom the poetry of a character.
