Francesc Labastida (požární inženýr / Fire protection Architect) ; Comments: The new Institut del Teatre (The Theatre Institute ) will be sited close to some of the existing buildings of the 1929 Universal Exhibition. As such, adequate links had to be established between the existing architecture and the new building. The project endeavours to respond to the surrounding context without breaking away from the existing architectural structures, although also having the necessary autonomy to be undertood as a differentiating feature. The creation of a piazza - atrium at the main outside entrance will bring about the symbolic juncture between the new and the old. The programme of functions is dense and varied, bringing together within the same building different but complementary uses, e.g.: the superior school of dramatic arts and dance, a high dance school, two theatre halls, a documentary resource centre, a library and museum.
Under construction, scheduled completion: XII-1999 (information form 1999)
