Slovakia

The theatrical architecture exhibition shows the interconnection between careful preservation and restoration of old historical buildings, new constructions of theatrical buildings and theatrical life in Slovakia. New mult-purpose theatrical buildings were built in Prešov, Nitra and Bratislava at the beginning of the seventies. The renovations of old buildings in Zvolen, Martin and Bratislava are also very interesting, particularly the reconstruction of the Slovák National Theatre opera and ballet building, originally designed by the architects of Vienna, Fellner and Helmer in 1886 and the house of the Aréna Summer Theatre, built in 1900 and recently renovated. The generous renovation of the Adolf Lang work from 1899 in Košice also deserves attention. The new sociál situation in Slovakia after 1989 has brought substantial re-evaluation of the principals in theatrical architecture. These new tendencies are shown in the design of the Puppet Theatre in Košice which is currently being built.
