Brazil

Brazil has taken part just once in the Theatre Architecture Section at t he Prague Quadrienal, in 1967. At that time, architect Fabio Penteado won the Gold medal. This great lapse of time made us consider the possibility to take to Prague an exhibition that would embrace the various experiences in this field from our country. Brazil is a very extensive country, and this results in a large amount of diversity among the projects, according to each region. We have chosen to show in Prague restoration projects of theatres build 100 years ago; projects with an alternative approach, offering multiple stage possíbilities; projects that centre its goal on the integration within the urban context. Brazil has lived these last years of the century marked by several experiences of open theatre or productions staged in found places. However, we have not escaped completely from the traditional proscenium stage form.
