MIODRAG TABAČKI: "A set design could ensure a good performance but at the samé dme it functions as an autonomous art with its own values and it can exist and last outside the original performance - every exhibition of set designs is a proof of that. Thus, to represent both good performance and the set design as an exhibit is what I consider to be in itself Homage to scenography as an Art. In addition to my work in classical theatres, I have had the pleasure and challenge of promoting scenography in new and unusual places such as in the remnants of the burnt theatre in Split, Croatia, in 1977; the town square in Cividale del Friuli, Italy, in 1991; the old steam factory in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1993; the terrace of the Mediterranean hotel and medieval fortress in Budva, Montenegro, in 1997. By finding adequate set design solutions I háve made possible for some of these performances to be staged in conventional box theatres. Vice versa, thanks to their suitable set design solutions, the perfomances I made for the traditional stage could also be played on the outdoor stages of festival towns. I wish to include this particular segment of my scenography work in the exhibition."
