Czech Republic

The exposition represents works by selected teams with a similar approach to theatre and scenography. The author is not just the stage designer, but the whole team led by the stage director, who creates the whole image of the work. We may follow a search for common pictures, common language and exchange of mutual co-operation. Different alternatives of groups' set-up allow new specific forms of expression to be established. The exhibition presents some common, as well as different specifics of these teams focused around several outstanding stage directors, such as Jan Nebeský, J. A. Pitínský, Jiří Pokorný, Vladimír Morávek and Michal Dočekal. These characteristics are both concrete images of personal worlds and a road to intimacy and clear and composing form - a score of individual scenes.

• Zuzana Krejzková

* 1970, Pardubice
Additional information: She studied textile design in Brno and the School Insti-tute of Arts and Crafts. She started her theatre carrier as a dresser. Since 1994 she has been co-operating with stage director J. Pokorný in the Drama Studio in Ústí nad Labem, the Komedie Theatre and the Theatre Hadivadlo. Since 1996 she has been in permanent co-operation with stage director M. Dočekal in the Komedie Theatre, the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové, the J. K. Tyl Theatre Plzeň and the National Theatre Prague.
• Sylva Zimula Hanáková

* 1967, Kroměříž
Additional information: She graduated from Masaryk University Brno and studied scenography at JAMU. In 1991 -96 she was a designer at the Goose on a String Theatre. She co-operated with the Theatre HaDivadlo, the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové, the Vinohrady Theatre Prague and others. She designs costumes also for film and TV. She is also a free artist (objects, jewels) and a book illustrator. She held several individual exhibitions.
• David Marek

* 1965, Praha
Additional information: He graduated from DAMU, the Stage Design Faculty, and regularly co-operates with stage director M. Dočekal, H. Burešová, E. McLaren and others. He has created over 70 stage and costume sets for a number of Czech theatres. In the last decade he was active also in the field of architecture.
• Milan David

* 1959, České Budějovice
Additional information: Ho studied scenography at DAMU, then co-operated step by stop with all renowned Prague theatres and with most municipal and regional theatres in tho Czech Republic. As a stago dosignor ho also worked for theatres in Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Spain, Argentina and the USA. In 1993-98 ho locturod at tho Scenography Department of the Centra Andaluz do Toatro, Sevilla. Ho realised scenography projects for tho European Scenographic Course (London, Utrecht, Sevilla, Prague). Since 1992 he has been lecturing at DAMU, Prague. David designed over 150 stage and costume sets.

Additional information: Czech stage designer. After graduating from DAMU in Prof. Jan Dusek's stage design class of 1997, he started to work in theatre, concentrating mostly on experimental works. In 2003 he started teaching stage design at JAMU in Brno. He also works on TV projects and participates in exhibitions.

Additional information: He graduated from KALD DAMU, he has been continuously co-operating with stage director Vladimír Morávek at the Klicpera theatre in Hradec Králové and at the National Thea-tre Prague, with Miroslav Krobot and the Dejvické Theatre where he is a resident stage designer.

Additional information: Architect. He studied the history of art at the Masaryk University and the VUT Faculty of Architecture Brno. He practised at professor W. Holzbauers atelier in Vienna and lectured as a freelance lecturer at the JAMU Scenography Institute for two years. Together with I. Wahla he established the RAW Atelier in 1991. As an architect he was awarded a number of awards by the Association of Architects. In 1996 Jób, a play staged by Theatre HaDivadlo, was awarded the Alfréd Radok Award for which Rusin produced the stage design. In 1998 he received the Alfréd Radok Award for his stage design for the Dido and Aeneas opera in Plzeň. He co-operates mostly with stage directors J.A.Pitínský, A. Goldflam, I. Krobot, J. Pokorný. He is a standing collaborator at the Ha-Theatre and the Amateur Theatre Group in Brno, which has joined together in May 1991 using the name Cabinet of Muses.

Additional information: She graduated from DAMU, and designs costumes for theatre and film. She has collaborated most frequently with director Petr Lébl and now she works with Jiří Pokorný and Jan A. Pitínský. She is employed at the Theatre on the Balustrade. She is a teacher on the European Scenographic Course. She won the PQ'99 Golden Triga.
• Aleš  Votava

Additional information: He studied scenography at VŠMU Bratislava. He has held residencies in Paris and Rome, participated in several scenography workshops and 11 individual and 23 collective exhibitions. As a stage and costume designer he co-oper-ated on nearly a hundred drama, ballet and opera stagings. He regularly co-operated with a number of Czech and Slovak stage directors, e.g. Petr Lébl, Jiň Pokorný, Vladimír Morávek. Since 1998 he was Assistant Professor at the VŠUM Bratis-lava. He was awarded Slovak annual Doska Award in 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2001 as an appreciation of his work, as well as the Alfréd Radok Award 2000 and the Slovenský literární fond Award. He received Silver Medal at the International Scenography Triennial, Novi Sad 2001 He participated in the PQ in 1991 and 1995. Text from the PQ03 Catalogue: He studied at the High School of Applied Art in Bratislava, prof. Rudolf Fila, and graduated from the VŠMU, Depart-ment of Set Design, prof. Ladislav Vychodil. During 1988-1992 he worked as a set designer at the Jozef Tajovský Theatre in Bánská Bystrica. Since 1992 he worked as a lecturer at the Department of Set Design at the Faculty of Puppet Theatre and Drama of VŠMU. He worked for different theatres in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, and he also designed graphic art and jewellery. He published essays, studies and critics in various theatrical and cultural magazines in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic.

She also devotes her time to fine arts (painting, graphic art, carving, ceramics) and film. She is a freelance lecturer at DAMU - she holds a scenography seminar. Additional information: His work started in tho A-Studio Rubin. Ho studied at DAMU Prague and co-operatod with directors D. Czesany and J. Pokorný, mostly at the Drama Studio in Ústi nad Labem, the Theatre HaDivadlo and the Theatre On the Balustrade where he worked also with J. A. Pitínský. He designed nearly thirty stagings and presented his works at the Trien-nial Novi Sad in 1998.
• Zuzana Štefunková-Rusínová

Additional information: She studied scenography at the KALD DAMU. In the year 1991 she completed a residency in Stockholm. Since her university studies, she has been co-operating with J. A. Pitínský. Many stagings on which she participated were awarded the Alfréd Radok Award. She designs cos-tumes, mostly.
