BEDŘICH FEUERSTEIN - EDVARD II., 1922 BEDŘICH FEUERSTEIN (1892 - 1936) Architect, painter and designer, he co-opearted with the National Theatre Prague, Osvobozené divadlo (Liberated Theatre) and Municipal Theatre Královské Vinohrady. He was member of the architect section of Devětsil art group, worked in brs. Perrecťs architectory atelier in Paris in 1922 and in Raymonďs atelier in Tokyo in 1926. Christopher Marlowe: Edvard II. - 50 original stage designs and copies of stage designs, model - Národní divadlo Praha (National Theatre Prague), 1922 - stage director: K. H. Hilar The two decades between the world wars constitute one of the most remarkable eras of Czech stage design, when we could find a significant influence of modern art styles. Beside Cubism, Futurism and Expressionism at the beginning of twenties, there were also elements of Poetism, Purism and Functionalism. Design started to play a key role in theatre pieces. Our PQ '99 exhibition aims to remember those creative times, but also show the difficult birth of an art piece through the work of an artist - architect, painter and stage designér Bedřich Feuerstein. We decided to exhibit a single, but key installation - stage designs for Christopher Marlowe's Edward II from 1922. Under the direction of K. H. Hilar, a very complex creation originated, whose meaning was derived from the plot. The almost forty variants of stage design show the compelling invention and effort of the artist.
