Poland
The National exhibition is concerned with the phenomena of contemporary Polish drama. Using metaphor to animate the artisťs imagination, the distinguished scenographers are motivated to keep finding new interpretations of the form of the world and Poland - especially the process of disintegration of values which is increasing towards the end of the century. These problems are highlighted in the drama of Witkacy, Schulz, Gombrowicz, Róžewicz and Mrožek. With numerous translations and productions on the worlďs stages, they are in the repertoire of many countries. This form of drama, having its roots in the national tradition of Polish Romantics and Wispiaňski, is both contradictory and polemizing. In špite of the strong national references perceived by foreign audiences, universal values, are revealed.
