Canada

Canada's exhibition at PQ'99 represents the diversity of Canadian design in the past five years.The works chosen were created by designers from all regions of the country, at variety of career stages, on a variety of projects in theatres small and large (and with budgets small and large). The exhibition shows our richness of imagination and skills and our remarkable range of styles, reflecting the talents of the creative teams - directors, designers and actors - whose inspired energies combine to forge the theatrical moment.

Additional information: He works as stage, costume and production designer in the Canadian Opera Company. He received Gemini Award - September Songs, Dora Mavor Moore Award - Spring Awakening, Paris Critics Prize - A Midsummer's Night Dream and Edinburgh Festival Award - Bluebearďs Castle and Erwartung.

Additional information: Born in 1953 in Moose Jaw. He graduated from the University of Alberta. Currently operates as stage, lighting and costume designer in Manitoba Theatre Centre. Also works as professor of stage design at the University of Victoria. In 1995, he participated in the PQ.

Additional information: Born in 1949 in Poland. She graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Currently operates as stage and costume designer and architect in Tarragon Theatre, Pleaides Theatre and Stratford Festival. In 1979, she participated in the PQ. She received the Dora Mavor Moore Awards three times.

He graduated from National Theatre School of Canada and currently operates as a freelance stage and costume designer and also as journalist. He teached at the University of Sherbrook, now (1999) he teaches drawing at College Lionel-Groulx in Sainte-Thérese and participated in the PQ in 1983 (school section). In 1995 he received Prix ďExcellence en Art de la marionnette de l'UNIMA, in 1998 the MASQUE for Best Set Design .

Additional information: Born in 1942 in East Kent, England. Stage and costume designer. Graduated from the West of England College of Art, Bristol and the London Academy of Dramatic Art. Currently operates as costume and stage designer in National Ballet of Canada and Canadian Opera Company. She participated in the PQ in 1979 and 1983. She received the folowing prizes: Dora Mavor Moore Awards, ACE Award (Cable TV) and Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Award. She works as associate director of the Stratford Festival.
