Bulgaria
In a population of 8 million people, Bulgaria has over 50 state, municipal, dramatic, puppetry and opera theatres and scores of private theatre companies. The intensive presence of theatre in the social enviroment of the country is not a chance coincidence. Since the Bulgarian Revival theatre has been a major driving force in the development of our national culture. The development of the specific characteristics and folklore traditions of the European South-East is a major theme of the Bulgarian theatre and its main goal too. These traditions have always been enhanced through contacts with European theatre and its achievements. The exposition reflects a wide range of individual's tastes and the awareness of each artisťs desire to take part in PQ'99. And perhaps variety is the trend of contemporary Bulgarian scenography over the past few years...
