YOUNG SCENOGRAPHY IN FLANDERS
Behind the numerous theatre companies that háve recently emerged on the theatre circuit, a new generation of scenographers is hidden. Some of them have already had the chance of a break through in larger companies. Characteristically, they have chosen teamwork in order to define the design from within. Thus, shape conception and realisation develop in parallel with the process
of rehearsal. The most significant example of this is Theatre Company STAN, where all the collaborators are performers, as well as designers. This technique ultimately leads to a greater unity between shape and play; without being detrimental to the shape concept, they explicitly choose from two models: the stiff geometrical or the organical grown - this in accordance with the intended play form and the contents of the text material. Referring to the preparation that preceded the theatre performance, the exhibition combines the elements „table" and „mirror" with the photographs of the performances, to place a reflection on the medium itself.
