Additional information: Born 1927 in Rome. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. He began his career in the theatre with Büchner's Woyzeck for which he was awarded first prize, the gold medal, for the best scenic design. He has created since over a hundred scenic designs. Noteworthy is his contribution in the field of experimental theatre. In 1960 he set up, together with the playwright and producer Carmelo Bene, a theatre workshop in which they staged a number of plays, which, at the time, manifested the first form of resistance against official culture in Italy, even though today plays like Hamlet, Salome, Manon, Pinocchio, Gregorio 61', Faust or Margaret, Nostra Signora dei Turchi may be considered classic works. It is impossible to reproduce the scenic form of these plays, in design or technically, as it changed continually during each performance like in a happening. The author is deeply interested in the theatre for young people for which he is now seeking new forms of expression.
