Additional information: Born in 1936 in Gutenstein (Lower AustriaJ. Art-painter, stage and costume designer. Graduated from the Academy of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna and Paris. He was awarded the First Prize at the Theatre of Nations in Paris (1961) and the State Prize in 1964. He exhibited his works in Brussels, Paris, Rome, Sao Paulo, Zürich, Bayreuth and other German cities. His work is characteristic for its pictorial elements. He designs the costumes for his productions as well. Among his more out- standing designs are the sets to The Balcony by J. Genêt, The Dragon by J. Shvartz and primarily to Shakespeare's dramas.

Additional information: Born in 1913 in Innsbruck, stage designer, graduate of the Prague Academy of Applied Arts. Engagements: Innsbruck (1936-1937), Koblenz (1937-1938), Reichenberg (1938-1939), Prague (1940-1945), Josefstadt (1946-1947), Bern (1947-1956), Josefstadt (1958). At present with the Burgtheater. Guest artist in G. F. R. and Australia. His sets consciously subject themselves to the actor: they are very simple, devoid of all artificial experiments and materiál for effect alone.

After her studies she has worked as stage designer for various Viennese theatres and for films. Since 1954 she is permanently engaged by the Theatre of the Josefstadt and its three companies where she designs mainly the décor for dramas.

Additional information: Born 1920 in Vienna, stage and costume designer, interior decorator and lecturer. Studied under prof. Schuster, Witzmann and Niedermoser at the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts until 1939. From 1946-1948 chief designer of the Salzburg Festival, later in Graz. He designed sets for Mozart productions in Brussels, Augsburg, Strassburg and Mannheim. Also designed the sets for theatres in Austria, Italy, G. F. R. England and Switzerland. Lectured costume and stage design at the Bruckner conservatoire in Linz and the Salzburg Mozarteum, and history of stage design at the Salzburg University. Exhibited in Vienna in 1956, in London in 1957, in Rio de Janeiro in 1958, in Rome in 1961, and in Zurich, Karlsruhe and Berlin in 1964.

Additional information: Narozen r. 1896 ve Vídni, malíř a jevištní a kostýmní výtvarník. Absolvoval Akademii výtvarných umění ve Vídni a hudební akademii (zpěv). Do konce dvacátých let činný především jako karikaturista a malíř. Založil experimentální scénu a r. 1931 byl angažován Burgtheatrem jako jevištní výtvarník. Pracuje tam dodnes kromě krátkého přerušení v letech 1945-1948, kdy působil v Innsbrucku. Od r. 1939 navrhuje Salcburské festivalové hry, pracuje pro vídeňskou operu. Ze svých expresionistických počátků přešel k malířskému realismu.

Additional information: Born 1910 in Augsburg, stage and costume designer and theatre architect. Graduate of the Max Reinhardt Seminár, pupil of Max Reinhardt, Strnad and Roller. He became Reinhardťs technical assistant and participated in the building up of this theatrical school since 1933. He taught lighting technique, stage design and stage technique. Technical manager and chief stage designer of the Vienna Volksoper since 1940. Collaborates with several Vienna theatres and designs sets for Munich, Athens, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Zürich and Brno. He is one of the founders of the Bregenz Festival and the author of its daring project of a glass-domed theatre. He also built the technically very interesting Reinhardt Studio. His vivid architectonic phantasy and his interest in experiments and exotic motives found its best expression mainly in operettas.

Between 1958 and 1960 she studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, between 1960 and 1962 at the Arts Students Ligue in New York and subsequently in a special class for stage design at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts where she graduated in 1965. In the same year she was awarded a prize for general arrangement at the Biennial of Young Creative Artists in Paris. His work,mainly his paintings belong into the category of Viennese artists representing fantastic realism. He won prizes at the Biennale of Modern Art in Venice (1950) - the UNESCO award, at the Biennale of Sao Paulo, Pittsburgh and Tokio. He has exhibited his works in all of the major European and American cultural centres. Next to stage designs he also creates tapestries and mosaics.

Additional information: Born 1911 in Reichenau, costume and stage designer, graduate of the Women's Academy of Free and Applied Arts in Vienna. She worked for many Vienna theatres designing costumes for ballet groups. After working for MGM in Hollywood she returned to Austria and has been a permanent member of the Burgtheater since 1952. She designs opera sets, for the Salzburg Festival, for G. F. R., England and America. She has received the title „professor" in 1962 and was awarded the prize of the Vienna municipality. She ranks among the most outstanding European costume designers.

He studied at various South German art schools, where he acquired an education as a stage designer, graphic artist and painter. During the years 1948-57 he was a stage designer in Ulm. As guest designer he has worked in Baden-Baden, Braunschweig, Esslingen, Graz, Salzburg, Vienna, Regensburg and Stuttgart. Since 1957 he is the chief stage designer at the Landestheater in Linz. From 1938 member of the Vienna Volkstheater, first as stage designer later as producer. Works as guest producer with many Vienna theatres, also in Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Zurich. His sets consciously submit to the actor: the grey and brown colourings underline the colour of the costume. He applies projection in an effort to underline the basic character of the scene.

Studied architecture at the faculty for stage design of the Vienna Technical College, where he graduated in 1938. In 1948 he was awarded a doctor's degree in technical sciences and in 1959 the title of professor of technical sciences. Since 1947-48 lecturer of stage design at the Vienna Technical College and since 1957 lecturer of stage design at the faculty of theatre science of the Vienna University. Designer of the European Theatre Exhibition in Vienna in 1955 and of Austrian Exhibits of the 1 st Sao Paulo Biennial, for which he was awarded the Golden Medal. He designed the Salzburg exhibition „300 Years of Austrian Stage Design" in 1957, the Hugo von Hofmannsthal Exhibition in 1959 and the „150 Years of the Vienna Congress" exhibition. He designs sets and costumes for almost every Vienna theatre and also for theatres in Hersfeld, Graz, Bregenz, Munich, Wiesbaden, Hannover, Berlin, Naples, Tokyo, Osaka and Tel Aviv. He is a designer of monumental space, filling it with well-balanced detail. Lately he has preferred painting as a form of expression.

Additional information: Born 1939 in Würzburg, costume and stage designer, pupil of Prof. M. Jürgens at the Munich Academy of Applied Arts. She designed her first sets for the Munich Youth Theatre. From 1959-1962 she worked as costume designer for the Bremen Municipal Theatre and from 1952 in Vienna for the Opera, the Burgtheater and the Volksoper. She designs sets for the Salzburg Festival, for theatres in Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart and for the Austrian and German TV. She prefers to work for the opera, dividing and differentiating the choir by costumes plastically applied mostly in large units.

Neher) in 1955. Since then he has been regularly collaborating with Austrian TV. In 1960 he entered the Landestheater in Salzburg, in 1966 the Vienna Burgtheater. Since 1966 lecturer at the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts. In his sets he strives for maximum utilization of the scenic space and for the adequacy of stage materiál.

Additional information: Born 1925 in Vienna. Doctor of philosophy, stage and costume designer, graduate of the Academy of Art (1948) and of stage science and history of art at the Vienna University. In 1950-1954 he worked as art director of the Klagenfurt Municipal Theatre, later for the municipal theatre of Gratz.Since 1962 he collaborates with theatres in San Francisco, Köln,Genova and Athens. He teaches stage design and stage technique at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gratz and is a guest lecturer at the University of California in Camp Davis. His musicality, which is expressed in his colourful stage, predestines his work mainly for operas.

Additional information: Born in 1928. She completed her studies at the College of Fine Arts in Łodž where she works for the New Theatre. Her important works are stage designs of the adaption of the novel by Andrzejewski The Shadows Cover the Ground by Dejmek, of the plays The Visit by Dürrenmatt and of Acropolis by Wyspiański, of Measure for Measure, Hamlet and Julius Caesar by Shakespeare.
