Additional information: Born in 1897 in Augsburg, died in 1962 in Vienna, painter, writer, stage designer. After graduating from the Arts and Crafts School and the Academy of Art in Munich he joined the State Theatre in Berlin, where he worked from 1923-1926. From 1926-1928 chief stage designer of the German and State Theatre, from 1934-1941 at the Kroll Opera in Berlin and the Municipal Theatre in Frankfurt am Main. After 1945 worked for the Drama Theatre in Zurich and the State Opera in Hamburg and as visiting artist at the foremost theatres of almost the whole of Europe. Special mention deserves his cooperation with B. Brecht in the Berliner Ensemble. During the last years of his life he worked mainly with the Burgtheater and the State Opera.
Additional information: Born in 1904 in Reimscheid, stage designer, painter, graphic artist and writer, graduate of the Technical University (engineering) and the Art University in Kassel (painting). Worked as assistant at the University of Construction in Weimar. After his work in Kassel he worked for the Proletkult and other political theatres in Berlin. He worked with the experimental theatre of Lothar Müthel and Jürgen Fehling. Otto Klemperer brought him to the Kroll Opera. Worked mainly for the opera, for which he tries to find new technical possibilities. During his emigration after 1933 he worked with the Drama Theater in Zurich, after the war with all the foremost stages of Europe and a number of overseas theatres (Tel Aviv, New York, etc).
